Meet the people who

make it happen

Established in 2016, Fat Potato is a family run business, started by husband-and-wife team Jo and Andrew. Since then, we’ve grown our team by adding talented and passionate individuals. Our company ethos is to make everyone feel valued and included.

Jo Walsh

COO & DevOps Engineer

While guiding the internal direction of the company, along with overlooking staff welfare, Jo also specialises as a DevOps engineer. She brings a wealth of experience to the development and architectural design of high volume streaming processing systems with a focus on decoupled, scalable and observable solutions to improve system support.

Outside of Fat Potato, Jo enjoys riding her horse, dancing and yoga as well as being in the top 0.1% of Taylor Swift Spotify listeners in the UK (something Andrew is less proud of…).

Andrew Walsh

CEO & DevOps Engineer

Having worked across multiple domains, Andrew brings a wealth of technical and commercial experience to the role. Always wanting to stay connected and up to date in the industry, Andrew continues to develop software as part of our Software Delivery team.

When not in the office, Andrew enjoys being taken for a ride by his horse, Brazilian Jujitsu, cooking and stockpiling enough wood for the apocalypse – all with the help from his trusty chainsaw and axe.

Jack

Having graduated from Cardiff University in 2020 with a BSc in software engineering, Jack enjoys getting to grips with new projects and enhancing his skillset. He’s also a very proud parent to 2 little rabbits.

Carole

Recent Fat Potato recruit Carole offers several years of HR and office administration experience. Carole enjoys walking, talking, baking, eating, playing online scrabble, Animal Crossing and socialising.

Tim

A developer for over 20 years, Tim has extensive knowledge of the full development lifecycle. Having gained a BSc Hons with the Open University, he initially trained as a Java developer – however, he enjoys the challenge of learning new skills and languages. Tim’s pastimes include riding with his local cycle club along with walking in the local hills and mountains.

Rob

Unfortunately, Rob is old enough to have over 20 years of experience and was introduced to Cloud computing in 2013. Having gained multiple accreditations, Rob has been working as an Architect in more recent times and enjoys the rapid development and innovation of services and opportunities the Cloud offers.

Rob is a 1st Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo, an avid watcher of F1 and UFC and has followed Newcastle United since the early 90’s. He also frequently attends Parkrun’s as a runner or volunteer and enjoys walking.

Conrad

Conrad is a self-taught software developer with a passion for innovation and entrepreneurship.

While he’s not working on something, Conrad’s evenings and weekends are a blend of combat sports, wild camping, calisthenics and live music.

Josh

After graduating from the University of Sheffield with an MComp in Computer Science in 2018, Josh spent three and a half years at BT Security on various projects ranging from Cloud Computing with AWS, to automated test frameworks and development.

In his spare time, Josh learns Japanese, working towards his 1st Dan in Iaido, enjoys bouldering, and cooks new and exciting foods whenever time allows. His passion for cooking is only matched by his passion for games – video and board alike.

Dom

Dom is a full stack developer with experience across a number of different industries and technologies. With a background in electronic engineering, he has worked on projects spanning DSP to cloud platform engineering.

While not working, Dom enjoys spending time walking, baking and playing boardgames.

Dan

Having graduated in 2015, Dan has developed a broad technical skillset from his time working in several industries across multiple domains.

While Dan prefers the devops side of the role, he considers himself a full stack engineer.

Dan enjoys playing 5-a-side, walking Loki the poodle twice a day and the occasion fruity IPA.

Finchley

After graduating from the University of Manchester in 2020 with a master’s degree in Mathematics and Physics, Finchley joined the DVLA as a graduate software engineer. During his time at the DVLA, Finchley gained a master’s degree in Software Engineering. Finchley has a passion for learning new technology and enjoys the intellectual challenge that software engineering presents.

Finchley’s primary passion (apart from software engineering of course) is music – he is a multi-instrumentalist and enjoys playing and composing music. Other pastimes include reading, hiking, running, and cycling. Any other remaining time in his day is taken-up with entertaining his new puppy.

Shaun

Shaun graduated in 2017 with a BSc in Cyber Security combined with an apprenticeship. While specialising in Front End development and interactive data visualisation, Shaun has also worked across big data processing, CI/CD and IaC.

Outside of work Shaun spends his time climbing, surfing (when the waves allow) and hopelessly trying to tire out a Golden Retriever.

Milo

Milo graduated from the University of Manchester in 2018 with a MEng in Chemical Engineering, and then spent over 4 years at IBM on a range of public sector projects. Milo joined Fat Potato in February 2023 and has worked as a Cloud Engineer since. In his spare time he loves hiking, cooking, and wildlife photography.

alice

Having started as a full-stack software engineer, Alice now uses that knowledge and passion to help teams with her experience in Agile methodologies and her people management skills. She enjoys seeing technical work up close and helping teams do great work.

Outside of work Alice is rarely seen without her Switch, especially if there’s a new Zelda out. She also has a habit of going to see bad action films every week.

Meet 'Mr' Fat Potato!

Ever wondered where our company name and logo comes from? We’ll, look no further… this is the team’s pet chinchilla, who they affectionally call “Fat Potato”, given his uncanny resemblance to the veg!
